Appreciation Awards

Appreciation Awards are a great way to close a facilitation on a high note.

At some point during the workshop, ask participants to write their names on the “TO” line of the appreciation award. Collect them, and ask participants to watch for a behavior from their colleagues that they appreciate from several people.

Towards the end of the workshop, pass the appreciation awards out. Here’s two ways to do this: you can post them all up on a board and have participants come up and select the individual that they want to show appreciation for, or you can have participants pass the stack around the room, taking one award before passing the stack on to the next participant.

Participants write their name on the “FROM” line and whatever behavior they want to appreciate on the “FOR.”

This version of the appreciation award was originally drawn by the amazing Jim Nuttle. If you’re in a pinch and don’t have time to print Jim’s design, then pass out 8.5x11 paper to participants and demonstrate how to draw the award using a flipchart. A little group drawing is a fun energizer!
