Calendar
Why don’t end-of-meeting action lists get acted on? Why don’t next steps… get stepped on?
Action lists and next steps don’t take reality into account. They get written on a blank flipchart that fails to consider the real demands of day to day jobs.
One way around this is to draw up a large calendar of the next two or three months. When it comes time to plan next steps, write them on the calendar. Include the context of other demands on time: performance reviews, vacations, end of quarter tasks, whatever. That way, your team will have a more realistic view of what can happen by when.
